Zelg Galesic Bio
Zelg Galešić (born February 16, 1979) is a Croatian mixed martial artist, currently fighting in Bellator Fighting Championships. He has previously fought in Cage Rage, PRIDE, DREAM, and Hero's. Galešić is a certified ITF Taekwondo 4th degree black belt.
MMA career
Zelg was undefeated in amateur rules in the UK at the Combat Sports Open Trials, where all but one of his fights were won in under a minute. His pro MMA debut was on 12 September 2004 at Ultimate Combat 11: Wrath of the Beast where Zelg won by referee stoppage after 16 seconds against Jim Bentley.
On 30 August 2007 he (at the time British Cage Rage Middleweight Champion) was made an offer to fight for HERO'S, which he accepted. He lost his only fight with them against Yoon Dong-sik.
He made his DREAM debut in 2008, defeating Magomed Sultanakhmedov then Taiei Kin. However, in Galešić's most recent fights he has lost to Ronaldo Souza and Kazushi Sakuraba.
Zelg is often called "Croatian Wonderkid" or "Little CroCop" but best known as Benkei, a legendary Japanese warrior. He is, like fellow Croatians Mirko Filipović and Branko Cikatić, known for his striking and stand-up fighting.
After 15 months out following a loss to Japanese legend Kazushi Sakuraba, Galešić returned to fight on Liverpool's OMMAC promotion, where he took on local fighter Lee Chadwick. Galešić won the fight by KO in the first round.
Galesic competed in the eight man Bellator Season 5 Middleweight Tournament. In the quarter-finals at Bellator 50 he lost to Alexander Shlemenko by guillotine choke in the first round.
He next competed on India's Super Fight League's third event, SFL 3, against Doug Marshall.He won the fight via KO early into the first round due to a flying knee.
